EPA requesting input on Copley cleanup proposal Public meeting on Copley Square contamination set for July 22 By Kathleen Folkerth West Side Leader (Akron, OH) July 2, 2009COPLEY - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a $5 million plan to clean up the contaminated Copley Square site and is asking the public for feedback. ....The EPA reports that in 2000 the Ohio EPA found the ground water still was contaminated, which resulted in the site being placed on the federal Superfund list in 2005. Inclusion on that list made the site eligible for federal funding. Further study by the EPA showed that the PERC-contaminated ground water had formed a mass of contaminated water, called a plume, which affected the homes. The EPA said the plume is not safe for drinking water if used for a private tap, and pollution from it may pose the threat of vapor intrusion. ....
