Washington State Department of Ecology News Release August 11, 2009 09-199 Ecology and Crowley Maritime reach cleanup agreementBELLEVUE - A Crowley Maritime Corp. (Crowley) subsidiary and the Department of Ecology (Ecology) have signed an agreement to test soil, groundwater, and adjacent sediments for contamination at a site the company owns along the Duwamish Waterway in Seattle as the first step toward its long-term cleanup. Ecology invites the public to review and comment on the accord - called an Agreed Order - and an accompanying work plan and public participation plan. The 16-acre property at 7400 8th Ave. S. has been leased for cargo storage and distribution in recent years. Uses dating back to the 1920s include various manufacturing ventures that produced pipes, chains, lumber, treated poles, aluminum windows and steel culverts. The land lies on the north bank of Slip Four, a short branch of the Duwamish Waterway near Georgetown. ...
