EPA hopes Keith meeting will clear the air By PHIL DEVITT New Bedford Standard-Times (MA) August 17, 2009NEW BEDFORD - Amid public concern - and plenty of confusion - regarding the cleanup of contaminated soil near Keith Middle School, the Environmental Protection Agency is planning a community meeting to clarify its role. Scheduled for September, although no date has been set, the meeting will allow the EPA, along with the Department of Environmental Protection and city officials, to answer questions about the property, the site of a former toxic burn dump. The EPA announced the meeting in a letter to Eddie Johnson, president of Citizens Leading Environmental Action Network, or CLEAN. Johnson had written to the EPA, frustrated by the lack of a definitive "major plan" for the 104 contaminated acres, which sit near homes, churches, Keith Middle School and New Bedford High School. ...
