Ayers Park was expected to be started By Denise Malan Corpus Christi Caller Times (TX) September 3, 2009CORPUS CHRISTI - An environmental group is calling for further studies after a Corpus Christi Housing Authority report showed contaminated groundwater and soil at the site of a proposed housing project. Suzie Canales, executive director of Citizens for Environmental Justice, said the report is the reason the Housing Authority has not started a complex called D.N. Leathers Townhomes near T.C. Ayers Park on the Northside. The Housing Authority met with neighbors in December about the project, and residents have been curious why no construction has started, Canales said. But officials had not released results of the report. "We find it disturbing that the Housing Authority did not come to the community to tell them these results," said Canales, who had a news conference Thursday to release the report. ...
