Residents challenge cleanup By Barbara Behrendt St. Petersburg Times (FL) September 6, 2009BROOKSVILLE — Alleging incomplete testing, improper removal of tainted soils, deceptive reporting and secret deals, a half dozen residents of the Mitchell Heights neighborhood have challenged the final approval of the contamination assessment at the old public works compound in south Brooksville. The residents are seeking a hearing before an administrative law judge. If that hearing is granted, it could set the county back more than a year in the process of getting a remediation plan approved by the state and implemented. For a project that has already languished for 20 years since the county was first notified of the contamination, another delay is not what public works director Charles Mixson wants to see. ...
