Court blocks demolition of homes around Keith Middle School BECKY W. EVANS New Bedford Standard-Times September 18, 2009NEW BEDFORD - A Fall River Superior Court judge has issued the city of New Bedford and Mayor Scott W. Lang a court summons and a restraining order preventing demolition activity at contaminated properties on Greenwood and Ruggles streets. City officials must "desist and refrain from undertaking any work, except for securing the properties," until attending a court hearing scheduled for 2 p.m. next Thursday, according to the summons. An application for a temporary restraining order against the city was filed Thursday by Christopher R. Whittingham, a New Bedford attorney representing Citizens Leading Environmental Action Network. Three members of the environmental watchdog group, known as CLEAN, also signed the application. They are Brenda Mattos, Thomas Derosier and Eddie Johnson. ...
