Investigation to begin of contaminated former Utica industrial site By DAN MINER Utica Observer-Dispatch (NY) October 12, 2009UTICA - Testing and a possible cleanup will be taking place soon at a former industrial laundry site on Lincoln Avenue. The state Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking public comments on the plan by Tri-State Industrial Laundries to investigate contamination at the site and assess its impact. The 1.66 acre site - which includes several parcels owned by Tri-State - has been accepted by the state "They want to find out what is in the underground soil and groundwater," DEC spokesman Stephen Litwhiler said. "They want to find out what is the contamination and how far does it actually spread out." Tri-State will fund the investigation but will be released from liabilities of contamination there as part of the program, Litwhiler said. ...
