City to get $2 million grant for Newark Processing site BY AMY HOLLON Newark Advocate (OH) November 21, 2009NEWARK -- A new grant not only will help reduce contaminants on a Newark site but also will open up the land for development. The Ohio Department of Development on Friday announced Newark will receive a $2 million Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund grant to clean up the former Newark Processing Co. site on East Main Street. The land, located between East Main Street and the Licking River, has sat idle since Newark Processing went bankrupt in 1997. The land has piles of aluminum dross, a byproduct of smelting, according to Advocate archives. ...
