Residents will have longer wait for clean water By CHRISTINA KRISTOFIC Bucks County Courier Times (PA) December 3, 2009 Furlong residents won't get public water because a source cannot be found.Furlong residents have been living with contaminated groundwater for about 30 years. ...The DEP has cited two now-closed factories, Furlong Manufacturing and Vandor Manufacturing, as the sources of the contamination. Both used degreasing agents that contained TCE and PCE. DEP officials have estimated that 38 homes are drawing water from wells contaminated with TCE and PCE. The DEP has installed and maintained whole-house carbon filtration systems for many of those homes, and paid for bottled water to be delivered to other homes. ...Philadelphia developer Joe Grasso, who plans to build a shopping center in Doylestown Township at Routes 263 and 313, offered in 2008 to install public water for his property and the neighboring properties if he could build a supermarket. Residents fought his plan to build a supermarket, and Grasso withdrew his plan and his offer to install public water. ...
