Stadium consultants don't come cheap

Figuring out how much public money to spend on a new Chargers stadium is likely to cost $500,000 of public money.

The Centre City Development Corp., San Diego's downtown redevelopment arm, is preparing to spend that much on a mix of consultants whose work over 12 to 18 months could pave the way for stadium construction.

The downtown site eyed by the Chargers sits partially on a contaminated metropolitan bus yard. CCDC Chairman Fred Maas said estimates to clean the site and relocate the bus yard reached $100 million several years ago.
