Leakage discovered at Jekyll Island gas station site The lot needs cleaning before construction assessments The results will determine what action to take By Carole Hawkins Florida Times-Union January 4, 2010When underground storage tanks at Jekyll Island's demolished gas station were removed last fall, something else got left behind. Soil tests show some contamination has occurred at the site, apparently because of leakage from pipes leading to fuel tanks. Whether the discovery means a delay for a new station to be built is unknown. Jekyll Island Executive Director Jones Hooks informed park authority board members of the development at their December meeting. ...
