Environmental crews clean up heating oil spill at Preston school Students will be drinking bottled water as a precaution Monday By GREG SMITH Norwich Bulletin (CT) Posted Dec 30, 2009 @ 11:53 PM December 31, 2009Preston, Conn. - Environmental cleanup crews continued excavation Wednesday at Preston Veterans Memorial School in search of contaminated water and soil from a leak that sent hundreds of gallons of heating oil into the ground. School Superintendent John Welch said he expects school to reopen as scheduled Monday, but students will be drinking bottled water while the state Department of Environmental Protection continues testing wells in the area and works to remove oil from the septic system. Welch said cooking will be done with bottled water and students will eat off of paper plates to avoid using the dishwashers. ...
