Testing expands around former dry-cleaning shop By Ray Gronberg Durham Herald Sun (NC) January 7, 2010DURHAM -- Homeowners and environmental activists say the state has expanded testing for chemical contamination around a former dry cleaning store at the corner of Watts Street and West Club Boulevard. Indoor air samples in two homes on Dollar Avenue adjoining the site have been laced with "unacceptable levels" of a cleaning solvent called tetrachloroethylene also present in groundwater under the old store, according to briefing papers distributed Wednesday to residents and neighborhood leaders in Trinity Park. One of the homes has been fitted at the state government's expense with a vapor barrier that the owner and officials hope will keep fumes from getting inside. ...
