North Bozeman Superfund site deemed ready for redevelopment By MICHAEL GIBNEY Bozeman Daily Chronicle (MT) January 28, 1010After more than 20 years as a Superfund site, the north Bozeman property once home to the Idaho Pole Company has met clean-soil standards and could soon be suitable for redevelopment. Soil on the site straddling Interstate 90, as well as groundwater, was contaminated when the wood-treating facility that operated there between 1945 and 1997 used two toxic chemicals -- creosote and pentachlorophenol, or PCP -- to preserve wood, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Dioxins, a likely carcinogen, according to the National Academy of Sciences, were also detected at the site. ...
