2 firms ordered to help pay for cleanup Dan Herbeck Buffalo News (NY) January 28, 2010U.S. District Judge John T. Curtin this week directed two companies to contribute toward the cleanup of a badly contaminated site in Niagara Falls where a plant had manufactured a chemical that protected soldiers from poison gas. Lawsuits and countersuits have been filed since 1983, trying to determine who was to blame for the pollution at 3163 Buffalo Ave. Solvent Chemical Co. and its parent company, ICC Industries, already have spent more than $9.1 million for a containment project at Solvent's former factory site on Buffalo Avenue. Curtin ruled that DuPont Co. must contribute $2.05 million toward what Solvent has spent on the effort.
