ALBION - Residents will get a chance for input on cleaning up the former manufactured gas plant site.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation will hold public meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. March 1 at the Albion Fire Department, 108 N. Platt St., on a proposed remedy for contamination at the site on Ingersoll Street near the corner of East Bank Street in the village. The current estimated cleanup cost is $725,000. The cost to construct the remedy is estimated to be $432,000, and the estimated average annual cost for the first five years is $28,000, and for years six through 30 is $20,000.

The DEC will consider public comment as it finalizes the remedy for the site. The selected remedy will be made available to the public. The project then moves into designing and performing the cleanup to deal with the site contamination. The DEC has said it will keep the public informed during the cleanup.
