Study: Toxic plume harmless to Northampton Community College By Dan Berrett Pocono Record (PA) March 1, 2010A toxic plume underneath a former landfill lies less than a mile from the new campus of Northampton Community College, but it poses no evident threat to future students and staff, according to the college, an environmental study and a review of federal agency records. "From everything we did before we bought the land for the campus, nothing points to our site ever having contaminated water under it," said Mark Culp, director of facilities and campus safety for NCC. Concerns about the plume were stoked in a recent letter to the editor in the Pocono Record, which alleged that the plume had migrated under the new NCC site, and that the college had not done proper environmental testing before buying it. ...
