Contamination cleanup plan to be made public March 25 Kristen Gaydos Hazleton Standard Speaker (PA) March 18, 2010A work plan to clean up the trichloroethylene contamination along Church Road in Wright Township will be made public March 25. That's when the Environmental Protection Agency is scheduled to approve the restoration plan for the Foster Wheeler/Church Road TCE site cleanup project. On that date, the plan will be explained to the public at a meeting of the Mountain Top Environmental Oversight Board at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Jude Elementary School library. The oversight board is a community advisory group working with EPA and Foster Wheeler to keep residents involved. About 37 homes on Church Road are affected by the groundwater contamination, which originated at the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. site in Crestwood Industrial Park. The company operated from 1953 to 1984 and used trichloroethylene, or TCE, as an industrial degreaser. During the meeting, residents affected by the trichloroethylene contamination also can learn how their homes will be tested for vapor intrusion of the chemical. ...
