Wind turbine factory breaks ground in Monroe Monroe News (MI) March 31, 2010Ventower Industries broke ground Tuesday for a factory in Monroe to build giant towers for wind turbines, but company officials already have mapped plans to expand the plant. DeMattia Group will start construction soon on the new 115,000-square-foot facility on 38 acres off Borchert Park Dr. that once was a dump, but James Viciana, Ventower chairman, said in about a year the company should be poised to move forward with a 76,000-square-foot expansion. The firm was lured to Monroe with a buffet of incentives, but Mr. Viciana said Monroe's port, rail and truck corridors, along with its skilled work force and the teamwork of local, state and federal officials, made it the top choice for his company's first plant. He also commended Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who attended Tuesday's groundbreaking, for her emphasis on attracting alterative energy firms to the state. "You have set the tone in this state for what is happening here today," he told her. And he thanked state Sen. Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, for his "vision" in helping the project become a reality. ...
