Steve Coldiron spent nine years battling New York state over possible contamination at his former fuel stop on state Route 17.

But lately, all Coldiron gets is silence.

The difference — the state now owns the property.

Coldiron, vice president of Coldiron Fuel in Elmira, was also a partner, along with his brother David, in a truck stop business on Route 17 in Lowman.

The Coldiron Fuel Center operated from 1980 to 2000 and closed after the state Department of Transportation required part of the land for the new Route 17 Wellsburg-Lowman interchange.
