New Bedford trike path could face environmental roadblock By Anika Clark New Bedford Standard-Times (MA) April 20, 2010 12:00 AMAs evidenced by communities such as Fairhaven and Mattapoisett, bike paths are hardly new to SouthCoast. But now, New Bedford's pint-sized populace might get into the act, with a proposed new "trike path." Eyed for a brownfield on Walnut and Pleasant streets, the new tricycle path would give the PACE Head Start program's preschoolers room to spin their wheels. "We certainly could use additional space," said Head Start Director Karen Surprenant, who noted 200 children attend the program at the Madison Street site. People Acting in Community Endeavors built the playground on Walnut Street several years ago by overhauling what was then a vacant residential lot, according to PACE's Executive Director Bruce Morell. ...
