CRANBURY: Cleanup raises concerns By Maria Prato Cranbury Brickyard (NJ) May 27, 2010CRANBURY - Planning Board members are concerned about the amount of truck traffic and the quality of soil a developer is proposing to bring on the property as fill during construction of a planned warehouse complex on Brickyard Road.
Viridian Partners, of Colorado, which is operating as Cranbury Brickyard LLC, is seeking site plan approval for a 2.8-million-square-foot warehouse project on the long-abandoned site of a munitions factory. The factory, Unexcelled, exploded in 1954, killing two workers and scattering debris, some of which remains potentially live, across the 395-acre parcel.
Viridian, which specializes in cleaning and redeveloping contaminated sites, bought the property several years ago and is proposing construction of three warehouses and using the buildings and parking lots to cap the site. Access to the remainder of the site would be banned.
