Environmental investigation under way on Asheville's 'The Block' By Nanci Bompey Asheville Citizen-Times (NC) June 29, 2010An underground storage tank may be leaking petroleum into an area of "The Block" slated for redevelopment. Land-of-Sky Regional Council, working with Mountain Environmental Group, will spend the next few months testing the parking lot at 40 S. Market St. to find out if an underground storage tank discovered six months ago is leaking its contents into the ground. They will determine if it needs to be removed before work on a new mixed-use building in the historically African-American downtown business district can continue. ...
