HARTFORD - State regulators have sued the owners of the former Sibley Co., alleging that they failed to complete a study of any pollution emanating from their property in the Tylerville section of Haddam.

For decades, Tylerville residents have coped with contaminated groundwater. A group of residents around the former Sibley Co. property use a double-filter system to clean their drinking water.

The state is seeking a civil penalty of $25,000 a day against the former owners and a court order requiring that they immediately complete the investigation and begin any cleanup.

The state Department of Environmental Protection and the attorney general's office filed the suit, dated Sept. 23, in Superior Court in Hartford.
