City Approves Moving Forward with Mill Clean-up Strategy Greenwood Today (SC) October 19, 2010For quite some time questions have loomed over the old Greenwood Mills site No. 5 located on Kitson Street in Greenwood. However, Monday night the City of Greenwood took the first steps to initiate a cleanup of the old mill which is now primarily reduced to rubble. In a unanimous vote, Greenwood City Council voted Monday night to allow the City of Greenwood to enter into a non-responsible party voluntary clean-up contract with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control; optimistically the beginning of the end after a long and tumultuous history for the old Greenwood Mills property. Greenwood Mills sold the property in 1995 to Facemate who eventually declared bankruptcy in 2003. Greenwood Salvage and Demolition then purchased the property and owned it for a short time before the property entered into foreclosure. In 2007, Timberworks LLC purchased the property from Greenwood Salvage and Demotion. ...
