EPA will test Chamberlain neighborhood for toxic vapor By TIM JAMISON Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier December 15, 2010WATERLOO --- Federal environmental officials want to expand testing for contamination under homes and in basements around the former Chamberlain Manufacturing plant. Representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency held a meeting in Waterloo Tuesday to explain plans to test for cancer-causing vapors under 72 houses near the former manufacturing plant at East Fourth and Arlington streets. Those results could lead to the installation of systems to vent the vapors out of the buildings. "What we're proposing to do is very significant and has proven to work very well at other sites," said Bruce Morrison, of the EPA's Region 7 office in Kansas City, Kan. "This work is voluntary. It's not forced on anybody." ...
