Medfield State Hospital contaminant picture to become clearer after meeting By Derek McLean Medfield Press (MA) January 11, 2011Medfield - The state will present a report on the sources, types, and extent of the contamination at site of the former Medfield State Hospital Thursday night. The town and state expects to turn the area into residential housing, but must overcome a number of environmental hurdles first.
"The deal that the Selectman crafted includes 440 units of housing, of which 32 are single-family homes, about 200 are apartments and about 200 or more condominiums," Selectman Osler M. Peterson said.
But for now, the auctioning of the land, and steps to begin building, are on hold until the environmental issues are resolved.
According to John Thompson, a member of the State Hospital Review Committee, the site has a number of areas of contamination.
