Future of 70-acre former Chevorlet site in Muncie to be determined By KEITH ROYSDON Muncie Star press (IN) February 9, 2011MUNCIE -- Closed in 2006, demolished in 2008, reborn in 2011: Could the 70-acre site of Muncie's former Chevrolet plant see a new spark of life as a minor-league ballpark, business incubator or fairgrounds? Neighbors, local officials and the curious gathered Tuesday in two "visioning and planning" sessions to talk about the best use for the near-downtown site, which anchored Muncie's manufacturing community since the early 1900s. In the first session, about 50 participants broke into small groups and brainstormed ideas that ranged from industrial uses to parks to a mix of commercial and educational. There was little suggestion of residential use, because although the former Chevy site is squarely in a densely-populated area along Eighth Street west of downtown, contamination from nearly a century of industry at the location all but rules out new homes. ...
