Airborne pollutant closes Carver Community Center By Jared Council Evansville Courier & Press (IN) February 16, 2011EVANSVILLE - Officials are still trying to determine the source of a chemical contaminant that temporarily closed the Carver Community Center, forcing more than 100 parents to relocate their children to other after-school centers and leaving dozens of staff members out of a job. "We do all that we can to make this environment as productive as we can," said David Wagner, Director of the Carver Community Organization, speaking about the center that houses day-care and after-school programs for children ages six weeks to 12 years old. "To have something happen that is beyond our control is very awkward for us." The organization was forced to close that facility on Feb. 2, after an investigation into contaminants in that area found "elevated levels" of a chemical called trichloroethylene in the air, said Amy Hartsock, public information officer for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). ...
