New life for Labelon building in Canandaigua? By Melissa Daniels Canandaigua Messenger Post (NY) February 23, 2011Canandaigua, N.Y. - The long-vacant former home of Labelon Corp. may have a future as a retail and residential space, provided that the contaminants discovered in the building can be cleaned up. The groundwater contamination halted previous construction plans last year. Since then, the development company DHD Ventures, which has contracted with the building’s owner, filed and qualified for an application for remediation with the state’s brownfield cleanup program. On Tuesday night, the city’s Finance Committee approved a resolution to use up to $50,000 for a remedial investigation work plan, which is an examination of the building that will determine the source of the problem, and detail how to fix it. ...
