DEP: Upper Salford well water safe to drink David Hare/Journal Register News Service Montgomery News (PA) February 24, 2011UPPER SALFORD - After more than 10 years, the water from residents’ wells once again meets safe drinking water standards. ...In all about 50 wells in the township had been contaminated since 2000, when the Montgomery County Health Department made its first investigation. Lynda Rebarchak, DEP community relations coordinator, said the department proposes to discontinue residential well sampling and carbon filter maintenance at homes along Moyer and Thompson roads, Joanne and Shady Lane, Sumneytown and Old Sumneytown Pike, Bergey Road, Gladys Way and Diminjan Lane. Residents now have the option of keeping the filtration systems to maintain privately, or to have the system removed by DEP. Rebarchak said the cost of maintaining the system, which includes carbon filters, as well as ultra violet and sediment filters, depends on the number of people living in the house and how much water they use. ...
