Building above the Speonk Solvent Plume in Southampton, New York

The two-mile long Speonk Solvent Plume on southeastern Long Island,  
was discovered in 2001, but remedial action is not likely soon.  Some  
agencies believe that new residential developments above the plume  
should incorporate vapor mitigation, but the Town of Southampton  
chose not to impose such requirements.
