G.E. Chemical Concerns In Morrison KWQC TV-6 News (Quad Cities, IA/IL) March 3, 2011There are growing concerns about water contamination in Morrison, Illinois. It all stems from what may be leaking from the General Electric plant that recently closed. It's been reported by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency that trichloroethylene, or TCE, could be seeping into the ground and water supply. The chemical is used as a metal degreaser. It's known that long-term exposure can cause cancer, as well as damage to the liver, kidneys and nervous system. Kevin Sinksen lives right next door to the plant. He's worried that his family may have ingested the chemical that could have flowed into his backyard. "It's just been a big mess. Now, our property is worth nothing," said Sinksen.
