Untold oil leaks lurk As home sales sag and cleanup costs jump, fewer oil tanks are removed BY PETER KORN Pamplin Media Group March 17, 2011About 1,200 leaking home oil tanks were discovered last year in Oregon - the great majority in the Portland metro area. But what really worries Bruce Gilles, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality cleanup manager, are the leaking tanks that aren't being discovered. Before the economic downturn, hundreds more leaking tanks were being discovered and decommissioned each year. Gilles is concerned that fewer people are looking, afraid to discover that they have a major backyard pollution problem when they don't have the money to fix it. ...
