Toxins TCE, PCE Migrating North Toward Ohio River at Westmoreland BY TONY RUTHERFORD HUNTINGTON NEWS (WV) May 22, 2011HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) – Research of archived Region III Environmental Protection documents reveal that the site at 1111 Vernon Street (Coyne Textiles) has a problematic history of chemical spills. The Westmorland Neighborhood Association learned at a meeting last week that both PCE and TCE had been found in samples taken from wells surrounding the former Coyne structure. TCE had been used in the dry cleaning process. At one time, women breathed it as an anesthetic prior to child birth, according to an on- line dictionary. However, TCE has carcinogenic properties, although experts differ on the risks of liver and kidney cancer in humans. Since the EPA reopened its archived finding on the 1111 Vernon Street site, they have conducted both in-house and out-sourced samples, studies and analysis of the movement of the carcinogenic waste. ...
