Flintkote neighbors seek tax breakCity attorney looking into ways to reduce tax burden for those in remediation area By Joyce Miles Lockport Union-Sun & Journal (NY) May 29, 2011LOCKPORT - A move is afoot to help owners of property near a Lowertown hazardous waste site catch a break on assessment and/or taxation. At Mayor Michael Tucker's request, City Attorney John Ottaviano researched state real property tax law and possibly came up with a couple ways to get breaks for owners of property closest to the long- abandoned Flintkote industrial site, along Eighteenmile Creek at Mill and William streets. Both approaches would take state Legislature approval, though, Ottaviano said last week. Simultaneously, KLW Municipal Inc., the private property appraising firm that oversaw citywide revaluation, is having a second look at all properties in the blocks closest to the Flintkote/Eighteenmile Creek Corridor site, a state Superfund-listed "class 2" hazardous waste area since 2008. ...
