Porcelain Steel demolition on pause By Paul Waldschmidt Sand Springs Leader (OK) June 11, 2011The second phase of removing rubble left behind by the demolition of the Southwest Porcelain Steel facility on Morrow Road should be completed by the end of June, city officials say. The project is being funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under a Targeted Brownfield Assessment grant, Terry Walters, the city's economic development director, told a Friday morning community meeting hosted by Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith. The initial demolition took place in December, 2010.The second phase involves site boring and soil sampling to determine the extent of any environmental problems. Officials say they know asbestos material and mercury-based adhesives are present. ...
