Legislature asked to act on brownfield funding By Veronica Lewin Legislative Gazette (NY) June 13, 2011Former brownfield communities revitalized by state funding are calling on state leaders to approve funding for other communities in need. According to a report issued by New Partners For Community Revitalization Inc, the $34 million in grants already awarded through the state Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program will result in 833 pre- development jobs and between 275 and 455 post-development jobs for each brownfield area. The program also attracts business investment in these communities that seek to find new uses for brownfields, which the state describes as "abandoned and likely contaminated properties that threaten the health and vitality of the communities they burden."
