EPA finds no big threat at Superfund site BY JEFFREY TOMICH St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) August 10, 2011The Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday night said contamination from the Carter Carburetor Superfund site, an industrial eyesore in north St. Louis, hasn't spread to surrounding neighborhoods and poses no health risk. The EPA this spring collected soil, sediment and air samples from yards, vacant lots and homes around the old plant - the area considered at the highest risk if pollutants had migrated off-site. At Tuesday's meeting at the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club, Karl Brooks, the Kansas City-based regional administrator for the EPA, assured the audience that there was no reason to be alarmed. ...
