By Fritz Klug Kalamazoo Gazette (MI) October 2, 2011KALAMAZOO - For more than 60 years, Earl O’Byrne sold thousands of bikes to children in the Kalamazoo area from his cluttered shop on Harrison Street. The former Kalamazoo Cycle and Electric Supply Co. was one of the oldest companies in the city, located in a neighborhood with a mix of manufacturing, housing and retail shops. People living there could walk or bike anywhere they needed. Demolition of the shop last month - it closed in 1988 - went largely unnoticed as the building joined other former warehouses and decades- old structures that have been torn down in the area. ...
