Pender Commerce Park to be cleaned under brownfield plan By Kate Elizabeth Queram Wilmington Star News (NC) October 7, 2011A vacant and contaminated property straddling Pender and New Hanover counties will be cleaned and redeveloped for future industrial use under the state's Brownfields Program, according to county officials. The 400-acre tract of land, at 110 Vitamin Drive along U.S. 421 North, encompasses two separate properties, purchased by Pender County at different times for a total of about $6 million. The property – known as Pender Commerce Park – includes the former site of the BASF Corp., which manufactured vitamin products and left the land with both groundwater and soil contamination, according to state documents. ...
