DEP to pay for water lines By Manasee Wagh PhillyBurbs.com (PA) November 2, 2011Well-weary residents in Northampton can look forward to a future of fresh, clean water. And they don’t have to pay for hookups to new water lines. The state Department of Environmental Protection has decided the township should implement its proposal to install municipal water lines in the township’s western end. The project will be funded by the DEP and will solve the contaminated well problem. Residents living in affected areas have been rooting eagerly for this outcome since August, when the DEP held a public forum to discuss various solutions to the unsafe levels of the toxic chemical trichloroethylene, or TCE, in groundwater. Using public water and abandoning the wells is the only lasting solution, agency officials told residents. ...
