Middletown Wins Grant To Buy, Demolish Gas Station Property Is At Corner Of Main, Grand Streets By SHAWN R. BEALS, sbeals@courant.com Hartford Courant December 12, 2011MIDDLETOWN - The city was awarded a $400,000 state grant to buy and clean up a former gas station on Main Street, which will then be sold to the Community Health Center. City Planning Director William Warner said pumps on the property at Main and Grand streets are leaking gasoline into the soil, making the property a big risk for potential developers. The grant will be used to buy the gas station for $275,000 from the current owers and clean up the site. After remediation, the property will be shovel-ready, Warner said, and city officials plan to sell it to the Community Health Center to be the site of an administrative headquarters building with retail space on the first floor. ...
