A new plan for North End Tract II site By Mark Scheer Niagara Gazette (NY) February 26, 2012NIAGARA FALLS - The state DEC is proposing another new cleanup plan for a long-dormant North End brownfield site that is currently slated for redevelopment. Previous soil samplings taken by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at the Tract II site off Highland Avenue found nearly 50 percent of the waste and fill materials on the eastern end of the property have lead contamination at levels high enough to be considered hazardous waste. Last year, the agency proposed removing the material to a depth of 9 feet as part of an effort to reclaim the property. Earlier this month, the DEC announced that it has amended the plan following a review of soil sampling and waste treatability studies and after consulting with Honeywell International Inc., a company identified earlier in the process as a "potentially responsible party" for the lead contamination. ...
