Canton has spent more than $1 million in legal fees since 2007 By TERRY BIBO Peoria Journal Star (IL) May 28, 2012CANTON - Ever-expanding email inboxes are obvious time-wasters - and not-so-obvious taxpayer money-wasters. "Canton is just one example of this," says attorney Phillip Lenzini, who has written and lectured about the unintended consequences of the quest for government transparency. While it is difficult to break out specifics, the city has spent more than $1 million since 2007 on legal fees, mostly linked to one ongoing court battle. Canton cleaned up part of a brownfield site downtown that was left behind by the former International Harvester plant. Although IH successor Navistar International Corporation acknowledged responsibility, it has not repaid the multi-million- dollar clean-up costs. ...
