NEW YORK—When the next Indy 500 winner takes a victory lap next year, there is a chance the winning engine will have been designed right here in New York.

“New York City is known as a global leader in fields ranging from fashion to finance, tourism to tech startups, and biosciences to film and TV production. Bergman took advantage of the New York City Brownfield Cleanup Program, gaining nearly $80,000 in incentive money for cleaning up and building on the lot, which had been a vacant eyesore since 1985.
