EPA: Deal in place for Elmwood Park cleanup BY JEFFREY TOMICH St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) October 18, 2012The company that owns a north St. Louis County industrial site has agreed to clean up groundwater contamination that reaches into an adjacent neighborhood and is the source of chemical vapors seeping into the basements of some homes. The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday announced the agreement with Waltham, Mass.-based PerkinElmer Inc., the owner of the former Missouri Metals plant site at 9970 Page Avenue near Overland. Chris Whitley, an EPA spokesman in Kansas City, said the agreement is meant to obtain more data to better identify a plume of contaminated groundwater extending from the plant site as well as any areas that need to be immediately cleaned up. Data will also be used to develop alternatives for a broader cleanup of the site and surrounding area. ...
