Air sample test results in for troubled homes Jessie Balmert Newark Advocate (OH) October 20, 2012NEWARK - Results from air sample tests of a carcinogen under Newark homes were lower than expected, but it still is unclear what that means for residents' health. Tests revealed chemical levels between 0.39 parts per billion and 4.7 parts per billion - the rough equivalent of four drops in an Olympic- size swimming pool - in air samples taken from eight residences on South Pine Street and James Street, said Joe Rutherford, deputy director of Ohio Department of Transportation District 5. The chemical revealed was trichloroethylene, a degreaser, solvent and now-known carcinogen the Ohio Department of Transportation used for decades at its now-closed site on Maholm Street, Rutherford said. ...
