City has option to buy property for stadium By Julian March Wilmington Start-News (NC) October 29, 2012The city of Wilmington has finalized a land deal that would allow the city to pay $5.2 million for a downtown property to build a baseball stadium. If voters approve a Nov. 6 referendum to spend $37 million on a minor league baseball stadium, the agreement would allow the city to move forward with purchasing the downtown property. The agreement indicates the city would spend $5.2 million for the roughly 8-acre Sawmill Point Marina property, which is at the corner of Cowan Street and the Isabel Holmes Bridge. In August, an earlier draft agreement indicated the city would pay $4.5 million for the property. County records show the property sold to Sawmill Point Investors LLC in July for $3.6 million. ...
