Using gold to turn the region's brownfields into green By Laura Krantz MetroWest Daily News (MA) November 30, 2012Toxic dirt in MetroWest and the Milford area can tax the wallets of cities, towns and residents who want to develop property where former mills and factories left behind pollution. But buckets of federal and state money are helping cities and towns in this region clean up those polluted sites, known as brownfields. No MetroWest or Milford-area cities or towns were among communities tapped Thursday by Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray to receive special help from a group of state officials that aid cleanup at some of the worst sites. But Framingham, Ashland, Bellingham and Franklin are among communities in the region trying to clean up those properties that can be tricky to sell or develop because of potential pollution. ...
